To create a child theme you just need to create a folder for it (you can call it “[themename]-child”, for example: “indigo-child”), and drop inside a style.css file with a little snippet on the top, that will let WordPress know it still has to use our theme. Once you activate it, you can drop inside it any file you want to change, without worrying it’ll go away when you update the theme. Do a quick read of these two posts for detailed instructions:
