Updating the theme will override the old files and replace them with the new ones. So, before you update the theme: if you’ve made any modification to the theme itself (to the files), remember to do that on a child theme so you won’t lose any changes when updating the theme.
(You won’t lose any of your content and settings by updating the theme).
There’re two ways to update an Artisan theme:
First way: Automatic Updates
The easiest way. Learn about it here.
Second way: Manual Updates
If you want to manually update the theme, navigate to Appearance » Themes, and:
- Deactivate the theme by activating another one.
- Hover with your mouse on the theme, and click “Theme Details”.
- In that window click “Delete” (on the bottom right corner).
- Now upload the new version of the theme. IMPORTANT: You must upload the file called “theme-vX.X.X.zip”. Do not unzip this file before uploading it. WordPress takes a zip file as your theme file.
- Activate the theme.
